New Things Coming for the Newman Center
As our ministry and community here at the Newman Catholic Student Center at TAMUCC is growing, we are expanding to better serve out students with a new chapel. Our existing facility, built in 1992, doubles as a chapel and activity space. The primary purpose of our 6,300 square foot expansion will be a dedicated chapel which will seat 275 people, nearly tripling our current capacity. It will also include confessionals, a sacristy, an office, and storage space. That will leave the current space available for student activities and gatherings.
This expansion is part of the Legacy of Faith-Future of Hope Capital and Endowment Campaign of the Diocese of Corpus Christi, which began in 2014 and has contributed to new campus ministry facilities in Kingsville and Beeville, as well as a retirement facility for our priests and other projects. Additional support has come from a $500,000 grant from the John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation.
The campaign and the grant are financing the building of the chapel, but more donations are need for the renovation of the current space, for liturgical items, and for stained glass windows for the new chapel. If you would like to contribute, please donate here or contact the Stewardship Office of the Diocese of Corpus Christi.
