Yesterday we started this series called “The Freedom to Love” based upon Saint John Paul II’s Theology of the Body. It basically goes on to explain healthy Christian relationships and the purpose of chastity. It’s some pretty interesting stuff, but that’s not what I really want to talk about. Going through seminar, it pointed out the connection between marriage and God’s love for us. Most of us have heard that already, right? And we all know about the wedding feast at Cana where Jesus performed His first miracle, turning water into wine. Well Christopher West continued on with the wine concept. Jesus turned water into wine, and at the Last Supper He chose wine to be the expression of His blood that was shed for us during His crucifixion.
Ok going back to my last blog post, I tried to explain that God is love. He is literally love, through the Holy Spirit. Now Jesus is God. Therefore Jesus is also love. His blood, which is the wine that became His blood, is connected not only to our salvation, but also to marriage through the miracle at Cana. So literally God is ever present in the love we share with each other. It’s crazy to see how everything is connected, how everything in the Bible has meaning. I never made the connection between the wine and blood. Wine is used for celebration, God keeps “giving” us His wine because he wants us to become drunk off his love! That is so crazy! Just food for thought!
