Hi everybody! This past weekend, I was blessed to be able to attend the first ever Awakening retreat that was hosted by Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University-Kingsville. When I first arrived, I was still getting used to having no control over what was going to happen during the retreat since they had taken away our phones and there was no way of knowing what time it was. As the weekend went on, I began to forget about what the world tells me I should worry about and instead focused all of my thoughts and energy on my relationship with God.
The highlight of the weekend for me was when we were having adoration and Father Peter Stanley brought the monstrance to us individually and held it in front of us for at least a minute. It was the most powerful thing that I have ever felt. While Father held it in front of me, I was crying because I could just feel the Holy Spirit and God’s love radiating and pouring out over me but I also felt unworthy of looking at it and wanted to simply put my head down but I knew Jesus would want me to stare into His Face. When Father had moved on to the next person, I couldn’t help but think that was the best gift anyone could ever give me. It was definitely the most impactful moment of my life and I am so blessed to have been able to experience just a little taste of how great God’s love is for us. Even after my little taste of heaven was over and Father moved on to the next person, I continued to watch how the monstrance impacted the other people and it was so beautiful to see the others getting impacted the same way it had to me.
I am so happy and honored to have had the opportunity to go on this amazing retreat and I recommend to those of you who have not yet gone, to strongly consider attending the next one that occurs and for those of you who have already attended, to help and get involved in the next retreat. I also want to thank everyone who helped put together this retreat, especially our Awakening coordinator Tony Guajardo who had been working on this retreat for months and also our campus minister Amy Barragree and Kingsville’s campus minister Father Peter Stanley. Without you all, none of this would’ve happened.
